As Texas begins to slowly dry out from the deadly and destructive flooding, volunteers from North Carolina are there to help.

Eight volunteers from the American Red Cross are providing relief across Texas and Oklahoma.

Eyewitness News caught up with one Wilmington man, James Jarvis, who's currently serving in Corpus Christi. Jarvis has been there for eight days and plans to stay for at least another week.

Jarvis says they're happy to do their part now, because there could be a time soon when North Carolinians need a helping hand.

"Those of us that deployed from North Carolina are proud to be here to help our friends in Texas," Jarvis said. "With the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, eastern North Carolina is always in the cross hairs of hurricanes and so this month, we're here in Texas and in Oklahoma helping our fellow Americans and next month, you never know, they might be coming back to North Carolina to return the favor."

Earlier this weekend, President Obama signed a disaster declaration for Texas that made federal aid available for recovery efforts.
