Sandhills volunteers helping with Harvey relief efforts
David Garrison works for the American Red Cross and he's from Pinehurst. He's been in Houston helping the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts since last Tuesday and more disaster responders could soon go.

On Monday night, volunteers with the Sandhills chapter of the Red Cross met. The meeting covered retraining and discussing the plan that could be in place if local disaster responders have to go.
Help people affected by Hurricane Harvey by visiting redcross.org, calling 1- 800-RED CROSS or texting the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
Garrison said there's been a lot of heavy rain and windy conditions. He said Harvey has left many communities under water and hundreds of people homeless.
That's why volunteers on the grounds have spent time opening up shelters, providing clothing and feeding victims every day.
"A lot of the people are coming in wet. We're trying to get dry clothes, especially sweat suits and things like that so they can try to get dried off," Garrison said. "If the facility has a shower, we are trying to get towels and different stuff so they can shower."
There's no timeline on how soon Garrison could return to North Carolina.
He said one thing is for certain - more volunteers are needed.
