Weight Watchers dessert may be tainted with listeria

Check your freezer! A popular Weight Watchers dessert has been recalled

Weight Watchers is voluntarily recalling its frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae desserts out of concern it may have Listeria contamination.

Aspen Hills, Inc., who makes the cookie dough pieces used in the dessert, said it tested positive for Listeria and contacted Weight Watchers.

The bacteria can cause serious and even fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

So far, there have been no reports of illness related to the product.

More than 100,000 cases of the Weight Watchers Smart Ones Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae dessert 4-pack are affected.

Listeria infection symptoms can include:

  • High fever
  • Severe headaches
  • Stiffness
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea

Listeria infections can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
