Wreck closes lanes on I-85 southbound

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A wreck late Saturday afternoon closed down I-85 southbound near Avondale Drive, exit 177.

Troopers say two cars collided after someone tried to merge. Both spun out after clipping each other.

Chopper 11HD was overhead as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Three people were taken to Duke Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

So far, no charges have been filed.

The interstate reopened just before 6 p.m.
