Lanes reopen after sign falls on I-440 near Hillsborough Street
Overhead sign falls onto I-440 shutting down the interstate in Raleigh. Officials said a truck hit the sign, causing it to come down.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- All lanes are open hours after an overhead traffic sign fell onto the outer loop of I-440 near Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.

North Carolina Department of Transportation said a dump truck hit the sign Friday, causing it to fall and block the roadway. Raleigh Police Department said it has been in contact with the driver of the truck and he will not face any charges

Nobody was injured, but the interstate was closed for a while to allow crews to clear the area.

Construction workers quickly brought in equipment to push the damaged sign and debris off the road.

NCDOT said the sign was scheduled to be removed as part of an expansion project in the area. The department said it plans to install temporary signs in the area soon; those signs would remain through the expansion project and then be replaced with permanent signs.
