Fayetteville Police Department tried to serve involuntary commitment papers on a man in the house. He refused to let officers in or come out himself.

Members of FPD's Crisis Negotiation Team worked for more than 3 hours to get the man to come outside.

After that, FPD said the man opened fire on officers multiple times. Two armored vehicles parked outside the house were damaged.

After a more than 12-hour standoff, the man left the house and surrendered. He was injured, but authorities have not detailed the extent of those injuries or how they were sustained.
