Man rescued from burning car in Durham

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A man was taken into custody after emergency crews rescued him from his burning car in Durham early Sunday morning.

The Highway Patrol said the man was driving drunk when his car ran off the shoulder just before 3 a.m. The car caught fire on Cornwallis Road near Erwin Road.

Emergency crews passing by noticed the fire and the man passed out inside the car.

They were able to rescue him.

He was taken into custody, but authorities have not yet said if he was charged.
