Cary Police Department responded to calls about a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Old Apex Road and West Chatham Street just before 6:15 p.m. Officers said the driver of a pick-up truck rear-ended a Honda Accord while experiencing a mental health crisis. He then continued driving down the 1200 block of W. Chatham Street towards the Brampton Moors Apartment Community.

Police said the driver then jumped out of the truck while it was still moving. The truck then continued down the street and crashed into the swimming pool at the apartment complex.
Police said no one was swimming at the time of the crash and no injuries were reported.
Kirk Kremer lives in the apartment community. He said he was swimming in the pool with his children less than an hour before the crash happened.
"My wife is sitting right there like speechless. I was telling her like 1 hour ago we were here -- or less than an hour," he said.
Kremer said he went to grab food with his 10-year-old and 3-year-old, then came back to the crime scene.

"And then, I mean, we found this, and we were glad we went to eat I guess," he joked.
Susan Grega has lived at Brampton Moors for 31 years and saw it all happen.
"Then I looked up and saw this gray pickup truck going rapidly this direction. And then I realized it was out of control going down the hill," she said. "You try to piece together what was going on. So that was it. And then watching him, I was more concerned about him not knowing his state of mind and wanted to make sure he wasn't carrying anything and all."
The driver of the pick-up truck is being charged with hit-and-run, according to police. He was taken to a facility to receive mental health treatment.
