It happened about 6:30 p.m. at N. Harrison Avenue and Hillsboro Street.
Police said a woman was crossing N. Harrison Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle.
She was taken to a hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries. Late Monday evening, police announced that the victim died from her injuries. She was identified as Amy Marie Delettre, 37, of Raleigh.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Police identified him as Richard Yoneoka, 82, of Cary. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
N. Harrison Avenue has reopened to traffic.
