The Raleigh Police Department (RPD) said they started the investigation on Sunday, December 31 after staff at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital called around 10:30 p.m. about a serious assault on a child.
A warrant obtained by ABC11 states the child was beaten so badly that he suffered a brain hemorrhage. According to police 24-year-old Amir Devon Hines was charged with felony child abuse causing serious bodily injury on Sunday.
Raleigh police said the boy died the next day (January 1) as a result of his injuries from the beating and on Tuesday, January 2, Hines' who was already in jail on the abuse charge is now charged with murder in his son's death investigation.
