Christmas trees preserve Carolina Beach sand dunes

CAROLINA BEACH, North Carolina (WTVD) -- People in Carolina Beach are putting old Christmas trees to good use.

More than 100 people came out Saturday to help preserve and rebuild sand dunes. Seventy-five trees were placed along the dune line and secured with all natural materials.

Over time, each tree will be buried by sand.

The location has changed each year since the recycling project started in 2014, based on the area that needs it the most.
