Search warrant released for Raleigh 'cold medicine' murder case

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Search warrants have been released in the murder of a woman who police said was killed by her husband inside of their north Raleigh home.

Raleigh police have charged 28-year-old Matthew Phelps with the murder of 29-year-old Lauren Phelps.

In a 911 call, Phelps said he took cold medicine and when he woke up, he found his dead wife next to him.

The search warrants from the couple's Patuxent Drive home shows that officers did find an empty box of Coricidin HBP Cold and Cough.

Other items taken from the home were a knife block, bed sheets, Best Buy receipts, and several computers and credit cards.

Phelps is being held at the Wake County Detention Center without bond.

He and Lauren were married in November of 2016.
