The northbound lanes from NC 87 to NC 24 were closed for hours after the crash involving a semi-truck and van on Thursday morning.
Investigators say two vehicles were traveling northbound when the semi didn't slow down, overcorrected and hit a Dodge Ram Van.
The crash caused the truck to go off the road and overturn.
The truck driver and child died from their injuries.
The woman in the van was taken to Cape Fear with non-life threatening injuries.
