Diaper Bank of North Carolina in need of donations

The Diaper Bank of North Carolina's services are in high demand and local organizations like the Jewish Community Center of Durham are hard at work collecting diapers for the organization.

"When we are distributing 160,000 diapers a month, we need to be pulling constantly from that supply and getting them into the community," said Michelle Old, co-founder of the bank.

Old said the community in need includes many struggling people who may even be your neighbors. Nearly 80 percent of the people who need the diapers are working one to three jobs.

"We get calls all the time from teachers who cannot afford diapers, and we get calls all the time from military families where one is deployed and one is home, on WIC and food stamps, and can't afford to take care of their families and their basic needs," Old said.



The diaper bank donates some 2 million diapers a year, distributing them across the Triangle, Alamance County, the Triad and the Lower Cape Fear Region and the organization is always in need of help.

"Where people can drop off diapers, new or those open packages that their children may have outgrown. We also take donations, cash donations so when we're running low on certain sizes, we're able to purchase those sizes that we really need," said Old.

Donation centers are set up across the area, including at the Durham JCC.

"As soon as they come in they're gonna go out, covering bottoms all across our state," said Old.
