On Tuesday, Bernardino Valtazal, 29, of Durham, was charged with Driving While Impaired.
Investigators said Valtazal was behind the wheel of a 2008 Honda Civic when it struck a woman who was crossing the street.
The road was closed for hours between Driver Street and Briggs Avenue. Police said it reopened just after 11:30 p.m.
Pedestrian seriously injured in Durham crash
The crash happened just after 8:45 p.m. at South Guthrie Drive and Angier Avenue. The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Valtazal was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation and more charges are pending, police said.
