Durham police identify man hit by Amtrak train

DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Durham police said they have identified the man struck by an Amtrak train as 49-year-old Noel Summers Pitsenbarger.

According to police, Pitsenbarger was lying on the railroad tracks when he was hit and killed by the train on Saturday shortly after 8 p.m. at the 3100 block of Hillsborough Road.

The train was traveling from Charlotte to Raleigh with 68 passengers on board, none of them were injured.

Authorities believe that that the incident was a suicide.

The incident is still under investigation.
