Saturday update fixes crippled Facebook Messenger app

Saturday, September 23, 2017
Facebook has released an update after an apparent glitch brought its popular Messenger app to a screeching halt.

After a mid-September update, the app opened briefly before the screen turned completely black for several seconds and the app crashed.

On Saturday afternoon, Facebook released version 135.1 of the app, which appears to have fixed the issue. The release notes make no mention of the crashes.

While many have assumed that the crashing was tied to the recently released iOS 11 update, Forbes reported that an obscure piece of code in the app itself could be to blame for the crashes.

Facebook has yet to comment publicly on the situation.
