Fayetteville Police Department said officers arrived just after midnight at the intersection of Filter Plant Drive and Ames Street to check on an unresponsive man lying in the road. The man had been shot several times and was dead when officers arrived.

Officers identified the victim as Maurice Williams, 48.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting weren't released. There is no suspect information.
