Lexington Fire Captain Ronnie Metcalf got seriously burned when fighting a house fire on Tuesday at 306 West 5th Street.
Metcalf was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, according to the City of Lexington.
His cause of death was reported as burn wounds on 60 percent of his body.
Two arrests were made related to the fire, police said.
Detectives arrested Brandon Alan Hoskins, 31, and Stacie Blair Stegall, 37, on warrants for misdemeanor breaking and entering into 306 West 5th Street after it burned. They were also charged with illegal drug possession.
