"I felt so sorry yesterday when a lady rode a cab trying to get here and she paid for a cab to get some heaters," said Helping Hand Mission director Sylvia Wiggins. "We didn't have no heaters."
The organization hopes to collect 300 heaters to distribute to families, and the elderly, who can't afford adequate heat this winter.
To ensure the safety of the receivers, Helping Hand Mission is asking for heaters that shut off when overturned.

"(They) have a built-in safety feature that makes them turn off so you don't have to worry about catching your hand on fire, catching your house on fire, children accidentally touching them," senior associate at Seabord Ace Hardware said.
