Mark Jacobson, renowned Triangle-area car dealer, dies at 73

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Mark Jacobson, the founder and president of multiple Toyota car dealerships in the Triangle, has died at the age of 73.

After battling a 'health condition' for several months, he passed on Wednesday, Aug. 5, according to the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association (NCADA).

"Mark was an extraordinarily witty and accomplished car dealer who built a brand that emphasized customer service and integrity. He always preached the importance of doing the right thing," the NCADA wrote in a statement. "Our condolences go out to Mark's family, friends, and his entire dealership team!"

Jacobson was widely known for his dealership's lighthearted television commercials that featured his dogs Dylan and Elvis.

Representatives from Jacobson's dealership also expressed grief.



"Those of us who had the opportunity to work with him felt his intense passion for this business and down to earth genuine care for the people that make it happen. Mark was an extraordinarily witty and accomplished car dealer who built a brand that emphasized customer service and integrity."

"Mark has always been a wonderfully benevolent member of the Durham community. He had a unique place in his heart for the Special Olympics and sponsored events in the area for this worthy organization, as well as other community-based charitable organizations."

"We will miss his business savvy, his sense of humor, his generous nature, and his mentorship."

Jacobson owned a Toyota dealership on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham. He also owned a collision center. Jacobson served the area for over 20 years, according to the dealership's website.

The association promised a celebration of Jacobson's life when health conditions allowed.
