DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Before Durham students return to the classroom Monday, a talented young man released a song called to encourage his peers to return safely.

"Six Feet" was performed by Durham 11-year-old JJ. He is a student at Merrick-Moore Elementary.

The message behind the song is to remind students to stay safe and keep their distance.

The school's principal started off the official music video with a message to students.

"Welcome back! We are so excited to have you back here at Merrick-Moore, said Principal Dr. Vanessa Alford in the video. "We have so many air hugs and air kisses for you. It's going to be an exciting time. We love you and we miss you. Welcome back."

"The principal called us, and it took a couple days but we ended up picking out a beat. I also took some time to write the song, and recorded it and had fun making the video!" JJ told ABC11.

His supportive dad, Jabre Green Sr., shot and produced the rap, "We don't try to force him to do anything, we introduce him to different things, see what he likes. Then if he shows any amount of strength or interest, we get behind him, support him any way we can"
