The Durham County Sheriff's Office confirms 72-year-old Tommy Watkins was found early Saturday morning, by one of the search crews. Watkins has been taken to an area hospital to be assessed but does not appear to have suffered any serious injury, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Agencies searched continuous for Watkins due to concerns for his cognitive impairment and medical issues for which he needs medication, officials said.
"Without the tireless efforts of Sheriff's Office personnel and from multiple partner agencies who responded, this could have had a tragic outcome." said Sheriff Birkhead.
