Driver killed after slamming into utility pole in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Authorities in Fayetteville are investigating what caused a deadly crash on Murchison Road late Wednesday night.

It happened around 11 p.m. near Cumberland Street.

Police said a 2003 Mazda sedan ran off the road and struck a utility pole, snapping it in half.

The driver, 38-year-old Keo Lee Hammonds, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities had to shut down Murchison Road to investigate, but later reopened the roadway around 4 a.m.
