Southbound lanes of Capital Boulevard were closed while police investigated.
On Sunday, Raleigh police said the driver of a 1997 Toyota Camry traveling southbound on Capital Boulevard in the center lane struck the man who was crossing well outside of a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and crossing in an unlit area, police said.
The preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle in front of the Camry suddenly swerved left out of the lane, and the Camry driver suddenly saw the pedestrian in his lane and did not have time to stop before striking the victim.
