1 dead after early morning house fire in Moore County

PINEHURST, N.C. (WTVD) -- One person died following a house fire early Sunday in the Jackson Hamlet community just south of Pinehurst, according to officials.

The Pinehurst Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire just before 5 a.m. on the 170 block of Arnette Street in Aberdeen. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the home.

A witness told firefighters that someone might still be inside the residence. Crews faced extreme heat and heavy fire conditions while working to bring the blaze under control.

At least two people were inside the home when the fire started. One person escaped, but a woman was unable to get out and was later found dead inside the house.

Officials said Moore County Public Safety, with assistance from the Pinehurst Fire Department, is investigating the cause of the fire. The victim's identity has not been released.
