19-year-old shot and killed in Sanford; arrest made

SANFORD, N.C. (WTVD) -- Sanford Police are investigating after a teenager was shot and killed Saturday afternoon.

Officers were called to a home on Bland Circle around 3:45 p.m., following a report that someone had been shot. When they arrived, officers found 19-year-old Jabar Rajahnik Griffin lying in the driveway with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Griffin dead at the scene.

Deshon James Smith, 19, of Sanford turned himself into police where he was arrested and charged with the murder of Griffin. He was taken before a Lee County magistrate and given no bond. His first court appearance is March 3.
