According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the driver of a red Chevrolet SUV was driving east on US 421 near Mount Pisgah Church Road before crossing the center line and hitting a blue Chevrolet SUV head-on.
The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.
Chopper 11 flew over the scene of the crash on Highway 421 near the Town of Broadway.
Law enforcement has not released the names of the people involved or the cause of the crash.
Both lanes of the highway have reopened to traffic.
