CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Cumberland County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a driver on Interstate 295 after witnessing a car swerving and driving erratically, authorities said.
The deputy suspected the driver was impaired and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not yield to the cruiser's blue lights and siren, prompting a pursuit, according to the sheriff's office.
During the chase, the driver struck a guardrail and a road sign before crashing into a utility trailer, which disabled the vehicle and ended the pursuit.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a medical facility for treatment, officials said.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
