Just before 2 a.m., officers with the Raleigh Police Department were patrolling when they responded to reports of a shooting at Alive Nightclub along Fayetteville Street.
When officers arrived, they found a large crowd fleeing the nightclub. Two people who had been shot were located at the scene and taken to a hospital for treatment.
While police were investigating, two additional shooting victims arrived at a hospital. Authorities said all four victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened as thousands of people spent the weekend in downtown Raleigh, including attendees of a food truck festival on Fayetteville Street.
Local business owners said incidents like this can affect public perception of downtown, even as city leaders and law enforcement work to improve safety in the area.
"You know, it's really unfortunate for downtown. We as business owners have talked about this for a year now. There's definitely safety concerns in downtown Raleigh. And that's all you hear about is the negative parts of downtown Raleigh. But this stuff does not help," said Carey Kidd, owner of Element Gastropub.
The City of Raleigh and law enforcement agencies have worked in recent years to address downtown crime, including partnerships with Alcohol Law Enforcement to target problem establishments and criminal activity.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Raleigh Police Department at 919-996-1315. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Raleigh Crime Stoppers.
