HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- What started as a home-based business has grown into an award-winning North Carolina company known for its handcrafted flatbread crackers.

The Accidental Baker produces artisan flatbread crackers that are handmade and packaged in small batches at the family's bakery in Hillsborough.

The Mason family has long been involved in the food and restaurant industry.

After relocating to the Triangle from Virginia, they launched The Accidental Baker as a home-based business, selling their products at local farmers markets throughout Orange County.

As demand grew, the company expanded into its Hillsborough bakery in 2013.

Today, The Accidental Baker offers six flavors of flatbread crackers and has earned several prestigious awards, including multiple Good Food Awards.

"We have six different flavors," co-founder Kevin Mason said. "Three of them have won Good Food Awards."

Current offerings include Tuxedo Sesame, Red Pepper Firecracker, Black Pepper, Rosemary Garlic and Everything.

Mason said the family puts a personal touch into every aspect of the business, including the packaging.

"When you look at our boxes, the artwork is generated and designed by us," Mason said. "The pictures are places we've been. One was even sitting in our garden. Everything about it has got a piece of us in it."

The Accidental Baker's products can be found at retailers across North Carolina, including Whole Foods, as the company continues to grow from its farmers market roots into an established regional brand.
