APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man who called police to report a break-in ended up behind bars.

Apex Police said the man called 911 around 12:30 a.m. Monday, but was unable to give his address, so officers began searching homes in the neighborhood around the 200 block of Sunflower Road.

Sounds of gunshots led officers to the townhome of the man they said made the original call.

Police said there was no sign of a break-in, but the 34-year-old man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was apparently firing a gun, believing there was an intruder.

He was arrested and taken to the Wake County Detention Center.

Three people younger than 18 were also in the home. No one was hurt.

The incident continues to be under investigation.
