Man in custody after hours long barricade, hostage standoff at Wake Forest apartments

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Raleigh man was arrested after a barricade and hostage situation Thursday into Friday morning.

It started around 11:30 p.m. when Wake Forest police responded to a reported disturbance at the New Hope Village Apartments on North Allen Road.

A woman called 911 saying Roman East, 27, threatened her and was intoxicated. Authorities say East locked the caller outside of her apartment with her child inside.

It was confirmed East and the woman had a prior relationship.

East barricaded himself and the juvenile inside the home for several hours. He refused to cooperate with officers despite repeated attempts from police negotiators.



Around 6:40 a.m., East finally left the apartment and was taken into custody. The juvenile hostage was not injured.

East was charged with felony second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor resisting a police officer. He was also served an outstanding warrant for communicating threat from an unrelated incident. He is being held in the Wake County Detention Center.
