CLINTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman who had been reported missing was found dead after her car crashed into a swamp Wednesday morning in Sampson County.
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on Old Warsaw Road near Pope Road, about four miles from Clinton. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 2012 Kia Sorento was heading north when it crossed the centerline, ran off the road, and ended up in Beaverdam Swamp.
The driver, Brenda Lamb Register, 68, of Turkey, North Carolina, was found unresponsive in the water near the crash site and was pronounced dead. She had been reported missing the day before, and a missing person's report had been filed by the sheriff's office.
Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. An investigation into the incident is expected to continue in the coming days.
