It happened just before 6:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Glenwood Avenue.
Fire crews quickly brought under control in about 15 minutes.
Officials say some people were checked out for smoke inhalation, but not transported to the hospital.
The store was closed for about three hours after the fire.
