1998 abduction, murder of Brittany Locklear remains under investigation in Hoke County

HOKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- On Jan. 7, 1998, 5-year-old Brittany Locklear was waiting for the school bus when she was taken outside her Hoke County home.

Locklear's body was found the next day, three miles from her house in a ditch next to a farm road.

The sheriff's office is still working the unsolved murder case decades later and is asking the public for any information it has that could lead to an arrest and conviction.



The investigation so far has been focused on the description of the suspect's vehicle.



Investigators believe it was a full-size pickup.
