Marine killed, another charged in deadly crash on I-40 in Wake County

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Marine stationed at Camp LeJeune is facing charges in connection with a deadly crash that took place on Interstate 40 on Thursday.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) investigated the crash that happened on I-40 westbound near mile marker 287.

According to NCSHP, a Honda being driven by Diego Andres Martinez Duque was traveling at high speed and made an unsafe lane change and collided with a Mercedes-Benz. The impact caused Duque to lose control and hit a guardrail.

Duque then hit an unoccupied Ford pickup truck on the median, reentered the roadway and collided with a Ford Focus before coming to a stop.

The passenger in the Honda, Jesus Alexander Colin of California, was pronounced dead at Duke Hospital in Durham a short time later.



Diego Andres Martinez Duque, is facing multiple charges in the crash, including misdemeanor death, careless and reckless driving, and unsafe lane change.

NCSHP confirmed both are Marines stationed in Camp Lejeune.
