SUV crashes into Lowe's Foods in Clayton; strikes another car

CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A car crashed into a grocery store in Clayton on Friday, prompting an emergency response.

Chopper 11 was over the scene at the Lowe's Foods store along U.S. Highway 70, where an SUV crashed into a support pillar.

Clayton Police said the vehicle struck a building column at Lowes Foods and also hit another car.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured, but the driver involved in the crash was taken to a hospital. The driver's condition was not immediately known.

The Town of Clayton Inspections Department evaluated the building and determined it to be structurally sound.



The Clayton Fire Department also responded to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
