DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- As part of the Carolina Theatre's 100th anniversary celebration, the nonprofit is preparing for one of its biggest fundraisers of the year - Dancing Like the Carolina Stars - this Wednesday, May 20, at 5:30 p.m.
Seven well-known community leaders from local businesses and organizations will take the stage in a high-energy dance competition, all to support the historic theater. This year's lineup features:
Monica Barnes - Vice President of Community Engagement at WTVD ABC11 Susan Herst - Broker / Founding Partner, Urban Durham Realty Diana Medoff - Educator & Community Organizer Tellers Pollard - Founder and COO of Flavor Hills Restaurant & First Wave Hospitality Group Michelle Vanderwalker - Owner of Queeny's & Kingfisher Alec Virgil - 2025 Durham Public Schools Teacher of the Year Chef Queen Precious-Jewel Zabriskie - Founder & Executive Chef of Elevated Palate Personal Chef Service and creator of Indulgent Essential Spices
Each participant has been paired with a professional dancer and has had weeks of rehearsals and preparation. The event promises electrifying performances, spirited competition, plenty of laughs, and entertaining commentary from the judges.
