PINETOPS, N.C. (WTVD) -- Carver Elementary School lifted its lockdown Friday morning after a reported threat of violence prompted precautionary measures.
The school said it received the threat over the phone at 7:42 a.m.
Officials later cleared the campus, but said increased security will remain in place as a precaution. Edgecombe County deputies say the threat remains under investigation.
Earlier, authorities restricted access to the school and asked families to stay away while deputies responded.
The school is located on East Hamlet Street in Pinetops.
