Carrie Knotts, who teaches middle school in Charleston, was selected by the Blue Angels as a "key influencer" because of her work teaching STEM courses that focus on flight and space. As part of the honor, she was invited to fly with the elite demonstration team.
"I don't think I'm a key influencer. I just do what I feel like needs to be done, so it's a blessing to be honored," Knotts said.
Her husband, Bridger Knotts, said he couldn't be prouder.
"I'm so proud of her and how she worked hard for that. I'm just glad she got to get that flight," he said.
Knotts is also a six-year breast cancer survivor and said the experience was more meaningful than she ever imagined. She described the flight as something that exceeded all expectations -- both personally and professionally.
