College football is back with NC State, Duke in home openers

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- College football is back, and two Triangle teams look to get off to a good start on Thursday night.

First up at Carter-Finley Stadium, a bit of history as NC State hosts ECU.

Historic because this is the first time in the Wolfpack's history that they open the season with the team they closed the previous season with.

And that last game wasn't pretty.

A brawl erupted between the teams during the 2024 Military Bowl, which ended in a 26-21 Pirates victory.

Some fans told ABC11 that the rivalry is as strong as ever, but they are excited to have ECU back in Raleigh.

Fans excited for return of college football

"It's pretty crazy. I mean, we like, know a lot of people that go there, said one NC State junior. "A lot of my friends from, like, home, go to ECU. So there's a lot of talk this week, but we're trying to keep it as civil as we can and still love each other. But from a distance right now for sure."

A lot of excited fans are waiting to see what happens. Kickoff at Carter-Finley is at 7 p.m.

Over in Durham, Duke takes on Elon at 7:30 p.m..
