CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Robeson County man has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison following the shooting of a police officer in September of 2023.

Daniel Wayne Locklear, 41, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon back in April.

It's tied to a domestic incident that happened inside an Exxon gas station in Cumberland County during which Locklear tried to drag a screaming woman out of the store before an off-duty Dunn police officer stepped in to help.

Locklear shot that officer in the leg.

He'll serve an additional two years for violating the terms of his federal supervised release, which prohibited him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
