Investigators say shots were fired at an SUV driven by an adult male. The SUV then collided with a Toyota sedan causing it to crash into a utility pole, sending power lines down all over the road. The SUV then crashed into a tree.
The driver of the SUV, Haywood Jabbar Downey, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say the 34-year-old had been shot at least once.
"The lights went out, power was down. I looked around, I looked outside and I saw that the street lights were out also. And I knew something wasn't right," said Dominic Wilson.
Wilson lives nearby and lost power around 3:30 a.m. when the Toyota crushed the utility pole.
"I want to know what happened," he said.
The driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
No charges have been filed at this time.
