Cumberland County Sheriff's Office deputies responded at 10:53 p.m. Friday to a shooting at the 1600 block of Seattle Slew Lane in Hope Mills.
Deputies found a man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office identified him as Capt. Adam Bean.
Bean began his service with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in March 2006 and most recently served as the Assistant Chief of Detectives.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is working to learn what led up to the shooting. As of Saturday evening, an SBI spokesperson said there was no new information to share about the investigation.

This was not a random incident, and there appears to be no additional threat to the public, authorities said.
