RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A driver was hospitalized with serious injuries after her truck-trailer lost control on I-87 and went airborne off the overpass leading to I-440 East.

It happened around 10 a.m., Tuesday.

Responding officers said the 2017 International LT625 was hauling a large amount of green fertilized seed corn. Witnesses told investigators that the truck was going about 70 mph as it reached a 55-mph zone.

The truck did not appear to slow down, and the driver lost control, rode up onto the outside concrete wall, then up and over the side of the overpass, falling about 50 feet below into the woods.

The ramp from I-87 to I-440 E was closed for about 2 1/2 hours.

The driver was rushed to a hospital with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
