It happened just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday along Tabor Church Road, not far from Tabor Methodist Church.
When first responders arrived, they found a Toyota Avalon flipped over with a tree on top of it.
The driver was partially ejected from the car and rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center but was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators said they believed that the driver over-corrected on a curve, veered off the road, and hit the tree.
