4-year-old boy in critical condition after accidental Durham shooting; man charged

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 4-year-old boy in Durham is dealing with life-threatening injuries after an accidental shooting.

Officers responded to the scene around 10:40 a.m. on the 700 block of Linwood Avenue and found the child with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Investigators determined the boy accidentally shot himself with an unsecured firearm inside a home.

No other injuries were reported.



Patrick Daye, 52, faces charges for permitting a young child to use a dangerous firearm. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
