According to arrest records obtained by ABC11, 21-year-old Sumner Horton Virkler was charged with 10 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Arrest records showed that Virkler allegedly had videos showing both boys and girls engaging in sexual activity, and that the children appeared to range in age from 5 to 15.
Virkler was an assistant middle-school track and field coach at Durham Academy.
The school told ABC11 that there was no evidence that the charges are connected to any Durham Academy students.
"The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority," a school spokesperson said. "At this time, we have received no information to suggest that the charges are connected to any Durham Academy students, families, or school activities. We will cooperate fully with any law enforcement request for information."
The spokesperson added that the school is reviewing Virkler's role with our program, including his interactions with students while serving as an assistant coach.
Virkler is being held without bond.
