DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Durham Public Schools highlighted the range of programs available to students, providing families with options to guide their future decisions.

The annual Showcase of Schools at Northern High School drew a strong turnout, offering insights into programs like year-round, Montessori, International Baccalaureate, Dual-Language Immersion, arts education, and more.

"I really feel like everybody and their mom should have been here, especially if you have a rising pre-K sixth grader or even ninth grader -- is really a lot of information," said one DPS parent.

"They gave out free books. To help build the library, your child's library, and also speak with Alliance to talk about children's mental health and emotional health," said another DPS parent.

Organizers said helping parents learn about nearby school offers and feeder patterns that allow students to stay with a cohort throughout their education, fostering community and peer support.

Giving families more options are one of the best ways to grow a community, Dr. Anthony Lewis said.

"It's really important that we offer a diverse array of programs, so that parents can make the appropriate choice for their child," he said.
